What is Religion?


What is Religion according to you?Is it Hinduism,Christianity.......maybe for most of you it is.But for me ,there is only one religion and that's Humanity.I just don't understand how people give so much importance to these Religions that they go to the extent of harassing others in its name.Those of you who have read "LAJJA" by Tasleema Nasreen must be aware ofthe fact that How Hindus in Bangladesh had to suffer so many attrocities (their shops were looted,houses plundered,women were raped,they were humiliated badly and even killed,their temples broken) and all this for what reason ?Because Babri Masjid had been demolished in India.Which Religion in this world teaches us to torture our fellow beings?I just don't understand one thing-What will people achieve or did achieve by doing all this?Have we forgotten the basic fact that we are humans first and Hindus or Muslims later.When a child is born does he even know the meaning of the word "RELIGION" ?He is just a human being.It is we who instill in his mind the thought of being a Hindu or a Muslim.

If one goes to the temple daily and thereafter does all sorts of bad deeds then is he being religious?If people think that they can please god by doing such things ,they are mistaken.It's better to satiate someone's hunger,to lend a helping hand to someone needy than shout slogans in the name of religion.I am not saying that going to the temple or mosque is a bad idea but going there just as a practice and not following what the religion actually teaches is something I don't appreciate.Do we actually need to go to the temple to pray?We all have been taught that God is one and God is everywhere.So, why do we have to fight over such petty matters?

Our so called politicians are also making use of religion to increase their vote banks and we foolish people even after knowing that none of them will actually pay heed to our needs,vote for them.Are materialistic gains so important to us that we have forgotten the basic ethics of Humanity?Man is said to be the most intelligent of God's creations and what use are we actually making of this intelligence?Even animals show much more compassion than humans.Man has evolved from apes over series of transformations but I am sorry to say that with all such events happening in the name of Religion ,we are again acquiring the animal instincts and should be ashamed of being called Humans.
